Deep in the Höllental valley in the Upper Black Forest lies a spectacular rock formation that has captured people's imagination for centuries: the Hirschsprung. The narrow gorge, which is flanked by steep rock faces, was not only a strategically important passage, but is also the setting for an old legend. Here you can find out what the Hirschsprung is all about, how to get there and what you can experience around this natural monument.
According to legend, a stag was pursued by hunters and stood on the edge of a deep ravine. At the last second, he leapt to his rescue - and made it to the other side with a mighty leap! Today, a striking statue of the stag stands on a rocky outcrop above the road as a reminder.
